Dance The Colours Of The World
24th February, 2026
This year’s Seniors Festival’s theme is Live Life In Colour. Embracing the creativity, diversity and energy of living life in our golden years.
As part of Seniors Week celebrations, Carin is offering free Zumba Gold dance classes to seniors on the week of 2nd March.
Zumba Gold is the low impact version of the fast-paced, high energy, Latino-inspired dance class Zumba. Zumba Gold was created to meet the needs of the older active adult. There is no jumping or twisting to protect those knee and hip joints. Many people come to Zumba Gold who have the typical aches and pains from life and even those who have had knee or hip operations in the past.
Participation is encouraged at the level that works for each person. This may be by modifying some moves, sitting whilst dancing, using a chair for support, sitting a dance out for a longer breather or just doing the arms for some of the dance moves.
Zumba Gold is basically, a falls prevention exercise class with transfer of weight and balance exercises designed to reduce trips and slips and keep everyone on their feet, staying strong, in order to live independently in their golden years.
Many of the dances are also designed to challenge the brain in a way that creates neural pathways to reduce development and progression of dementia.
Zumba Gold uses a wider range of dance genres from cultures all over the world to suit more mature music and dance tastes. There is Swing, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Disco, Belly Dancing, Tango, Flamenco, Salsa, Cha Cha, Country, and more. It is guaranteed that there is something for anyone who finds music makes them feel alive.
We like to have fun, dress up, have a laugh and dance to celebrate calendar events. People not only come to dance for fitness or even the health benefits. It is also about the social aspect. Keeping social is so important as we age when friends and family members move on and our bodies slow down.
I encourage everyone to come early, not only to settle in, but also to have a bit of a chat. We often stay afterwards for coffee or a bite to eat and even share seeds and produce from the garden.
