A Thoughtful Christmas Gift
November 30th, 2021
This year has been another tough one for some of us, a year of more change and practising even more self-care. Many of us are slowly getting our lives back to a new normal post lockdown, but still being careful with how much social interaction we have.
This year more than ever it is important to put some thought into your gifts. So, we have put together a list of healthy and thoughtful giving ideas.
For those in need
Spare some thought for that friend, neighbour or colleague who may not have many people to share the season with or a single parent or family with kids with special needs
- Offer to mow their law, trim their tree or hedge
- Offer to clean their house or car
- Offer to mind the kids
- Invite them to join your celebration
- Cook a double batch of a meal that can freeze well like lasagne, fried rice or a casserole or curry and offer a few serves as a helping hand
- Box up and share your Christmas leftovers
For those who have given too much
Self care gifts are gaining in popularity. Think about:
- Massages
- Self-care counselling or life coaching vouchers
- Yoga and meditation classes
- Personal training vouchers
- Dinner voucher at their favourite restaurant
For some adventure
Now is the time to support our local businesses who had to close down in lockdown. Give the gift of fun with
- Passes to wildlife parks and adventure playgrounds like Treetops
- Water sports vouchers such as for sailing or kayaking
- Dance or circus classes
- Farm tours and pick your own harvest
- A show, museum or festival pass like DinoFestival
- Sports equipment
Give the sentiment of pre-loved
New things are actually not better, in fact second hand presents are just as much valued if not more so by the gift receiver.
- Second hand and vintage shops have some great gifts that can be found still in good nick. Books, active toys like bats and balls, FIne Bone China crockery or old fashioned rolling pins.
- Family heirlooms make great gifts like a family recipe or recipe book, serving platter or dinner set.
- A gift from one garden to another and perhaps even something that has been passed down a few generations is priceless and always a good talking point. Native plants or a pot of herbs are super easy for those without a green thumb. If you know the person receiving the gift has some room you could buy them a tree or an edible nut or fruit tree. Then you will be sure to be the receiver of their produce too in years to come!
- Edible plants or seed packets are wonderful gifts too.
Hand made
- Kid’s drawings are always loved by close relatives. You can even make your own paint with flour, water and food colour.
- Home-made play dough and salt dough Christmas decorations are also a great kids activity
- Food baskets made with home-made or local produce like honey, jams, chutneys, nuts, loose leaf tea and coffee and even bees wax wraps.
Charty Gifts
- Charity gifts supporting education, food and water access, adopting rainforest land and animals are a great self-less gift.
- And if you can afford to give a little extra to someone in need, there are so many people and families in our community doing it tough so donating homewares, clothes, toys, food or money to the many charities out there can help so much. Here are just a few of our favourites: Coast Shelter, We Care Connect, Food Bank, Permafund.
From all of us at Bright Diets we wish you a Beautiful Christmas season and a wonderful Bright New 2022!
